Document Actions

GS1 Spain has launched the “EPC Competence Centre” (EPC CC). The EPC CC was inaugurated last September 13th and aims to be the meeting point between offering and demand for RFID/EPC needs in Spain, providing all necessary services to support and help Spanish companies to develop and implement EPC.

The Technology Demonstration area is focused in the supply chain, point-of-sale and home applications.  The installation of demonstration kits provides a clear vision to our members of the capability of EPC technology in different environments where supply chain processes are running: factory plants, warehouse, transport&logistics,...  the technology exposition shows equipment, tags and software applications.

Currently, there are nine demonstrators running in the EPC CC.  Three demonstrators   have   been  designed  to  make  tests  and  analyze the performance  of  tags,  antennas  and  readers  from  different hardware providers,  as  well  as to simulate real environment of the company when preparing  purchase  orders  and  dispatching/receiving merchandise.

The services that the Competence Centre offer, are:

  • Technology demonstration: real situations are simulated, the opportunities of the new technology are analysed and comparative assets of the different technical solutions are done.
  • Consultancy, engineering and measurement: offering support in test pilots; connecting the new technology with the existing systems in the companies; and providing measurement equipments.
  • Knowledge management: A new software platform has been developed offering the possibility to the companies to easily access to updated information related to technical progresses and test pilots performed around the world.
  • Training: There is an area fitted to offer training sessions about the new technology and the improvements that will bring in different sectors like industrial, jewellery, textile, etc.

Objectives:

  • In many countries around the world, companies from different sectors have started the implementation of EPC.  These companies  are driving the first pilots with their trading partners to test the technology.  GS1 Spain Competence Centre is created to let Spanish companies know about EPC technology, share companies experience and promote its implementation.
  • EPC Competence Centre aims EPC users and R&D centres work together to implement the new technology.  EPC adoption will be driven by joint pilots and test by different actor in the supply chain: suppliers, manufacturers, logistics services proiders and retailes, regardless of the company size.
  • Most of GS1 Spain members are SMEs, GS1 Spain will work to help these companies to implement EPC in an easy way and with low-cost.
